Gaming industry bodies and firms on Monday hailed the decision by the Karnataka High Court to strike down the law restricting online games, saying that it is a significant help for skill-based gaming firms that had closed down operations in the state.
The Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was mooted by the ruling BJP to correct the Karnataka Police Act 1963, in the Monsoon meeting. The pioneers asserted that they were acquainting the Bill with boycotting online gaming in light of a legitimate concern for individuals. The new Act restricted all configurations of online games including betting, wagering of all nature, and forms in the state.
Roland Landers, CEO of All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), said that "as the pinnacle industry body for online skill gaming, we invite the decision by the Karnataka High Court to lift the prohibition on online skill gaming".
"We anticipate working with the Government and all applicable stakeholders to foster an unmistakable administrative system that will empower genuine gaming organizations to work in the state with shields while eradicating illegal betting applications from the state," Landers said in a statement.
Under the new regulation, online gaming was viewed as a non-bailable offense with a fine of Rs 1 lakh and detainment as long as three years. Alongside prohibiting games of skills, the public authority had additionally ordered online games utilizing electronic means and virtual money, electronic exchange of funds regarding any game as betting.

"This judgment follows other positive decisions given by High Courts in Punjab and Haryana, Rajasthan and Bombay that perceived fantasy sports as games of skill and a real business activity secured under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.
