Industry, Trade Bodies Urge Karnataka To Relook Online Gaming Ban In Bill

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) have called for a relook of the Karnataka Police Act (Amendment) Bill, tabled in the State Legislative Assembly, which requires a prohibition on online gaming. The Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was tabled in the State Legislative Assembly on September 17 to boycott online gaming or betting by amending the Karnataka Police Act of 1963, with a maximum prison term of three years and a penalty up to Rs 1 lakh. IAMAI said the Bill acquainted in the assembly shows up with have been drafted disregarding the different legitimate and constitutional positions by including a wide meaning of gaming in amendments against different Supreme Court and High Court judgments. The CAIT on Sunday kept in touch with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai encouraging him to reevaluate the Bill.
