The 21st century has changed things in every aspect. Women who were previously undervalued for many years are now actively participating in the gaming industry. They not only regard online gaming to be entertainment but also as a professional career choice. According to the 2021 mobile game report released by InMobi in India, women accounted for 43% of the total audience in India. Among them, 28% of female gamers are over 45 years old, while 12% were between 25 and 44 years of age, and this means that 60% of female mobile players are aged 24 years or less. Thus, the future of mobile gaming will be largely shaped by women.
The presence of women in games is becoming more and more obvious in all possible roles, not only gamers but also streamers, influencers, game developers, and even entrepreneurs. Famous game stars have emerged like Sunita Thapa Magar (Sooneeta) who already has around 4.1 million subscribers on Youtube and is rapidly rising. Other popular gamers include Girlaxy India’s founder Vidushi Singh “Mogambo” Suryavanshi, Mudra Roy (the wallflower), Shagufta Iqbal – Xyaa (266 thousand Youtube subscribers), Manasvi Dalvi Manasvivi (57.5 thousand Youtube subscribers), and many others.
In the game industry, the demand for female theme designs, graphics, and main characters is growing, on the other hand, the demand for female games is also growing. Developers continue to modify existing games and create new games, new art, and graphic styles specifically for women in the gaming industry. According to an ENV Media report, the Indian mobile games sector is expected to reach a total revenue of $ 3.8 billion by the end of 2021, with an annual growth of 13% which is projected until 2025 and the average revenue per user is expected to reach $ 21.91.
There have been plenty of newly established Indian gaming studios and tech startups that have exceeded 400 as of 2020. Although there have been some experienced suppliers from overseas companies, many are new products in an expanding market. Focused on meeting the growing demand for high-quality localized content with favorite genres and related themes, graphics, and language support, as well as the unique needs of a large number of users in the subcontinent.
One of the best examples is poker, a game that has been associated with people of a rather dubious reputation for years. Then, after ten years of practice, the Indian poker superwoman, also known as Nikita Luther, demonstrated these stereotypes to be all wrong. In June 2018, Nikita became the first Desi woman to win a gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, USA, and led the Global Poker Index for Indian women in 2020.
Field of activity, but their sequence has proven that poker is a skill that requires skill, not just a game of chance. Mathematics nerd Nikita Luther admitted that she was attracted to poker due to the intellectual problems she faced. At first, she regarded it as a hobby, but she did not expect it to become a profession, but now that she has defeated thousands of opponents, we can be sure that there will be more like her to stand up and fight against stereotypes.
