MPL Ventures Into Africa
MPL has officially unveiled its mobile application in Nigeria, its first entry into the continent of Africa. This expansion brings the total number of MPL locations to four continents: Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa.
The MPL application provides a platform for gamers, both in Nigeria and abroad, to monetise their skills through the use of Paid Competitive Gaming (PCG). This is a relatively novel form of gaming that allows users to compete in skill-based competitions that go beyond the scope of traditional games.
To make the gaming experience more local and immersive, MPL partnered with Africa’s biggest mobile game publisher, Carry1st to launch in Africa. This partnership enables MPL to take advantage of Carry1st’s deep understanding of Africa’s 270 million plus gaming market.
“We’re thrilled to bring the MPL gaming experience to Nigeria, a country with a vibrant gaming community,” said Sai Srinivas, CEO and Co-Founder of MPL. “As the first Indian gaming company to launch in Africa, it is a testament to our success in the PCG space and our commitment to expanding our global reach. We look forward to building a strong presence in the Nigerian gaming market and offering a world-class gaming experience to our users.”
Nigeria’s gaming market is one of the key growth opportunities for MPL across the continent. With 210 million people, 70% under 30 years of age, Nigeria has the highest internet penetration in Africa at 51%. About 48 million people are gamers, with 95% of them playing mobile games. Interestingly, 32% of Nigerian gamers pay for their games, which is higher than India’s revenue per install. Nigeria’s overall gaming market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9-10% between 2020-2024.
MPL is well-positioned to take advantage of this rapid growth with its ever-expanding game portfolio, including fan favourites like Ludo. Additionally, MPL provides a strong security infrastructure that guarantees fair play through advanced machine learning models, fraud controls, game data encryption, and real-time models trained to identify and mitigate hacks and manipulation.
The gaming company has been growing steadily since its launch in 2018. At the beginning of 2022, the company partnered with the Berlin-based leader in community cards and board games, GameDuell. MPL has also been active in the USA for the past two years. As the gaming industry evolves, MPL’s growth in Africa is a testament to the company’s dedication to creating new and exciting gaming experiences for its users around the world.
