I&B Ministry To Hold Crucial Meeting On TV Ads Run By MPL, Other Gaming Platforms
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting of the Indian Government is holding an important meeting on 18th of November on the subject of television ads being run by Mobile Premier League and other online gaming companies. Representatives of gaming companies, the All India Gaming Federation, Federation of India Fantasy Sports & Online Rummy Federation will attend the meeting.
The meeting was arranged in view of the MIB believing that few of the advertisements are violating advertising & consumer protection regulations
Lately, the Advertising Standards Council of India had come across an MPL advertisement featuring Virat Kohli, which lacked substance with regards to the claims made in it.
The meeting will feature a discussion on the issue of advertisements run by Mobile Premier League (MPL) pool winner, Naam11.com & Dear Lottery, which perhaps violate advertising & consumer protection regulations.
The MIB notice states that these kinds of ads can be correlated to a provision of the advertising codes of the Cable Television Network Act, that prohibit ads which may mislead the public into believing that a product has wondrous or otherworldly qualities.
It also quotes the Advertising Standards Council of India’s (ASCI) self-regulatory code, that necessitates transparency around ads persuading people to participate in lotteries or prize competitions.
