Lumikai, the country’s foremost gaming and interactive media venture capital fund has just released its ‘State of India Gaming Report 2022’ in cooperation with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
India’s gaming scene is catching the world by storm, and this digital revolution is unstoppable.
First and foremost, India’s esports industry is exploding, with revenues predicted to reach $40 million in 2022 and $140 million by 2027. That’s a staggering 32% CAGR, women gamers outnumber males by 11.2 hours per week, compared to 10.2 hours for men.

A whopping 80% prefer Indian-themed games, with 82% preferring games based on Indian mythology. According to the survey, the vast majority of gamers (98%) play on smartphones, with leisure being the most important reason for gaming. In terms of in-app purchases, 64% of paying gamers pay for additional material, with casual games being the most popular category.
