MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi Withdraws Query He Took Up As Lawyer
Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi has removed an inquiry recorded against his name in Rajya Sabha on government strategy on wagering and online gaming, a matter he has been engaged in as a lawyer.
Sources said Singhvi has removed the featured inquiry recorded for Thursday.
On December 13, Singhvi, in his ability as a senior advocate, showed up before the Karnataka High Court for a petitioner organization that has challenged the Constitutional legitimacy of the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act 2021 that boycotts online wagering. He contended that there is a difference between a game of chance and a game of skill.
As MP, Singhvi had a featured inquiry — it requires an oral reply on the floor of the House — recorded against his name for December 16 on a similar issue. He wanted the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to express:
- The details of warning given by the Ministry on ads on fantasy sports;
- The explanations behind not making any distinction between games of skill and games of chance in it;
- The strategic position of the Ministry on these classifications.
Singhvi, who showed up for Gameskraft Technologies Pvt Ltd in the All India Gaming Federation versus State of Karnataka case before the High Court on November 11, prevented any contention from getting interested. “I have given seven reasons before, every one of which I emphasize without repetition, which show there was no irreconcilable situation, either indeed or expected or remotely considered. I repeat them without restarting them. All things considered, to forestall endeavors to sensationalize or contort, I thought it fit to pull out the inquiry being referred to. Nothing more nothing less,” he was quoted saying. He had said he had shown up for online rummy administrators on lawful marks of games of skill versus game of chance for over eight years in the Supreme Court and various High Courts.
