Coming Soon: Advertising Norms For Online Gaming Platforms Which Use Real Money
News and developments regarding advertising guidelines for online gaming platforms are coming thick and fast. Just a few days back, a meeting was arranged by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) for carrying out talks with stakeholders to discuss ads run by Mobile Premier League (MPL) pool winner, Naam11.com & Dear Lottery. Now, we are learning that the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) is foreseen to issue advertising norms for online gaming platforms in the near future.
These guidelines have been touted to be focusing on making advertising more responsible & making sure that users become more aware with regards to the financial & other related risks which are linked with playing online real money games.
ASCI has been working on the norms in deliberation with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) & civil society members. The AIGF is the apex industry body for online skill gaming in India, with some of its prominent members being Mobile Premier League (MPL), Adda52.com, Paytm First Games & 9Stacks.
In addition to AIGF, the I&B ministry & ASCI are also deliberating with the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) & the Online Rummy Federation (TORF) with regards to coming up with the guidelines.
Speaking of real-money online gaming platforms, there are a number of prominent companies in India including Dream11, Mobile Premier League (MPL), Junglee Rummy, 9stacks, etc. These and other online gaming firms offer real-money contests for the games of rummy, poker, fantasy sports, etc.
